Koh Lon

Koh Lon (Koh Lone or Lone Island) located in the middle of Chalong Bay is a quiet and tranquil place.  There are only a few small bungalow resorts and a small Muslim village on this island.  No roads and no traffic, the only vehicles on Koh Lon is a few small motorcycles and some bicycles that are used around the village. There are no shops or any nightlife here.

The Muslim residents on Koh Lon make their living mainly by fishing, but there are also some small rubber plantations and a small primary school on this mountainous island that is covered in dense tropical forest.
Koh Lon is almost 4 kilometer long and 1.5 kilometers wide.

Cape Panwa, Chalong and Rawai on Phuket is only a 15 minute longtail-boat ride away from the pier on Koh Lon.

A kitesurfer is having fun in the strait between Rawai on Phuket's east coast and Koh Lon.

I have launched my kayak on a beach in Rawai and I start paddling towards Koh Lon.

Kitesurfing school on the beach in Rawai.

A longtail boat on it's way from Koh Lon to the pier in Chalong.

I'm arriving on the eastern end of the long sandy beach on Koh Lon's northern side.

I paddle along this beach until I reach the bungalow resort Baan Mai.

Here I go ashore and stroll up to the restaurant

The bungalows.

The views towards Chalong.

I paddle on further along the beach and I meet this guy who is also out paddling in his kayak,

before I pass some longtail boats that are moored to the beach on the outsskirts of the village

Just east of the pier is a group of asian tourists doing parasailing.  I paddle in to the beach, walks towards them and take these photo's of the action on the beach.

  They are returning to Phuket,

and I'm walking into the village.

All the houses in the village are empty, everyone are at the school today to watch the show that is taking place in the school yard. Today the children at the school entertains with singing and dancing. I walk towards the school..............

Food and drinks are served in these tents.

The children are singing and dancing in front of the school.

I spend some time at the school before I continue paddling, passing the pier

before I'm arriving on the beach at Cruiser Island Resort, a few hundred meters further west.

I'm paddling into the beach and having a look at this resort,

After a walk around the resort I continue paddlig westwards along the beach.

The long sandy beach on the northern side of Koh Lone ends and I continue paddling along a hillside covered in dense tropical forest.

I'm paddling around the forested  hillside and I'm ariving on Koh Lon's western side. On a small beach here is the little resort Lay Maya Chalet.

I paddle along the western side of Koh Lon and I pass several sandy beaches located between the tropical forest that is covering most of the coast.

I am arriving at the southernmost beach on Koh Lon's western side. I'm paddling in and pulling the kayak ashore and I'm having a few minutes of rest on this beach.  There are several abandoned buildings here, maybe there have been a resort on this beach before.

I paddle around Koh Lon's eastern tip, which seems to be a great place for fishing.

I've paddled around to the south side of the island. Most of Koh Lon's southern coast is also covered with dense tropical forest.

                                                  A longtailboat is passing,

and 2 fishermen who are out trolling is coming slowly towards me.

I have paddled to Koh Lon's eastern tip and I only have two and a half kilometers of paddling left to do before I'm back in Phuket.

I'm passed by a longtailboat before I am back on the beach in Rawai.

2 boys are helping me to pull the kayak ashore when I arrive on the beach.

Back in Phuket and ready to go home..
